Spain Savvy Partners: The essence of flamenco in Triana at Baraka

In a corner of Seville, in the magical Triana quarter (where many would say flamenco was born), our friends at Baraka Flamenco opens their doors to anyone who wishes to be moved by this provoking art form.  Flamenco is a very distinctive style of music and dance, characteristic of the Andalusian gypsies, strongly rhythmic and including vigorous clapping of the hands and stomping of the feet.  It can evoke sadness and euphoria in both the artists and the audience, sometimes simultaneously.

Baraka (an Arabic word for charisma) offers a very special show including a welcome reception in the beautiful Andalusi style bar for drinks and some typical Andalusian dishes (perhaps to whet your appetite for dinner on one of the many amazing tapas bars nearby after the show), while listening to a classical flamenco guitarist and hearing from him directly exactly what flamenco is all about.  You will then be ushered into the intimate performance space where your senses are sure to be heightened by artists such as Niño La Isla, Juan Toro (with his earth-shattering voice) or the beautiful dancing of Maria Mena.

We recommend you schedule yourself to take an afternoon stroll around the Triana quarter taking in the gorgeous view of Seville from the Triana bridge and the Calle Betis, maybe popping in to the Triana market, and peeking in to the impressive Santa Ana church (Triana’s own “Cathedral”).  Get a feel for this familiar neighborhood by walking the streets and popping in to a confitería for a coffee and pastry, like Manu Jara on calle Pureza, or Confitería Lidia on calle San Jacinto.  Begin your evening at Baraka and after your insides have been shaken up, settle into some tapas at Las Golondrinas nearby.  If you still want to keep exploring Triana, there’s great nightlife at the many bars on Calle Betis!

Your Spain Savvy custom-designed itinerary will always include the recommendation to experience a live flamenco show in Spain, and we hope you’ll choose to visit Baraka in Triana while in Seville. Contact us today to get started on yours!
